Domaine Trapet Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin “Ostrea” 2019
Domaine Trapet Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin “Ostrea” 2019, "More deeply pitched and slightly less elegant aromas are comprised by notes of plum, dark currant, forest floor and whiffs of game and herbal tea. There is excellent density and power to the broad-shouldered yet still reasonably refined flavors that flash a bracing salinity on the refreshing and impressively long if slightly warm finale. This is always a solid Gevrey villages and 2019 is no exception." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru “Les Pruliers” 2020
Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru “Les Pruliers” 2020, "Slightly riper aromas of black cherry, raspberry and earth are fresh if brooding. There is both excellent delineation and vibrancy suffusing the delicious medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a chalky, palate drenching and youthfully austere finish. Lovely and very Pruliers in character." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges “Les Pruliers” Premier Cru 2019
Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges "Les Pruliers" 2019, "Interestingly, this possess a similar fruit profile though with decidedly more earth and sauvage characters suffusing it. There is excellent mid-palate density to the powerful and muscular big-bodied flavors that culminate in a powerful, austere and even more serious finale." - Allen Meadows', Burghound
Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils Grand Cru “Clos de Vougeot” 2019
"This is the first wine to display prominent oak and it's not subtle with plenty of menthol character sitting atop the aromas of dark currant, plum and warm earth. There is fine cut and punch to the moderately concentrated flavors that possess solid size and weight, all wrapped in a lingering finish that is perhaps a bit less youthfully austere than it typically is. While not super-dense, I like the balance and in any event, it has the more than sufficient stuffing to reward extended cellaring." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine de Montille Volnay Premier Cru “En Champans” 2019
Volnay Premier Cru “En Champans” 2019, "Slightly riper aromas exhibit nots of plum, black raspberry, spice and violet. There is excellent density to the more voluminous if slightly less refined medium weight flavors that brim with sappy dry extract that helps to buffer the slightly firmer tannic spine on the lingering and more complex finale. Lovely.." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges “Clos des Porrets St-Georges” Premier Cru 2019
"The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a tightly wound bouquet, iris and incense notes dominating at the moment, slightly at the expense of terroir expression. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red berry fruit and a touch of white pepper and clove, dovetailing into a piquant, lively finish. All it lacks is a bit of persistence on the aftertaste." - Neal Martin, Vinous
Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges “Clos Fontaine Jacquinot” 2019
Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges “Clos Fontaine Jacquinot” 2019, For the last few years Grégory Gouges has made this cuvée from one block near Château Gris, using 50% whole bunches. Rich mid purple with slightly lighter rim. Beautifully lifted nose, but still the prunes in the background. Attractive complex mixed fruit on the palate, sumptuous dark berries, just freshened by the whole bunch. -Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
Domaine de Montille Nuits Saint Georges “Aux Thorey” Premier Cru 2019
"The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Thorey 1er Cru, which is two-thirds whole cluster, has a very focused bouquet of elegant red cherry, raspberry and briary aromas, plus a hint of bay leaf and sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity thanks to the calcareous soils, and displays superb tension and focus toward the finish. A gorgeous, ethereal Aux Thorey." - Neal Martin, Vinous
Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils Grand Cru “Chambertin-Clos de Bèze” 2017
"From the same grape supplier as Chapelle-Chambertin. Here the colour is a little bit fresher and the nose too is not so uniformly black – more a dark red approach. This retains some elegance, with a classy full-bodied red fruit across the piece, some subtlety to the detail, ripe coulis de framboise, a faint appearance of acidity and very good length. A little limestone coolness behind. More discretion, which is to be welcomed." -Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Domaine de Montille Pommard Premier Cru “Les Rugiens-Bas” 2018
"Once again, the wood influence is subtle though not imperceptible on the slightly cooler aromas of lavender, violet, rose petal, red and dark cherry and a whiff of plum liqueur. There is excellent volume to the solidly concentrated and intensely mineral-driven flavors that possess evident muscle and power on the firm, serious and complex finale that is also clearly built-to-age. In a word, impressive." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine de Montille Volnay Premier Cru “En Champans” 2018
Volnay Premier Cru “En Champans” 2018, "Once again there is liqueur-like character to the aromas of red cherry, passion fruit, spice and pretty floral elements. There is excellent volume to the caressing and palate coating flavors that are refined yet powerful on the very serious, structured and built-to-age finale. This is excellent but patience strongly recommended." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine Trapet Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Capita 2018
"Aromas of dark berry fruit, rich soil tones, spices and raw cocoa introduce Trapet's 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Capita, a blend of fruit from the premiers crus En Ergot, Corbeaux and Combottes, supplemented by a visual selection of small-berried clusters from Petite Chapelle and Clos Prieur that are not destemmed. Deep and layered on the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a lovely sense of energy, powdery structuring tannins and a long, precise finish." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate
Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils Grand Cru “Chambertin-Clos de Bèze” 2018
"This too is notably ripe though the spicier and more floral-inflected dark berry fruit aromas are not jammy. While there isn't quite the same concentration there is markedly better vibrancy to the broad-shouldered flavors that possess a highly succulent mid-palate, all wrapped in a discreetly stony and sneaky long finish. The compact and built-to-age finish makes clear that plenty of patience will be beneficial." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru “Les Pruliers” 2018
Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges “Clos Fontaine Jacquinot” 2018
This is a special cuvée introduced last year. It comes from the bottom of the village sector of Les Crots which always has miniature yields and a different style. To reinforce this, the wine is vinified with 50% whole bunches, contrary to the usual Gouges technique. And it shows they can do it if they want to. Lighter color and a more lifted nose with some crushed strawberry. It is very pretty if you like the style, which I do, with a lush ripe finish -Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges Village 2018
"A very ripe nose blends notes of poached plum, dark currant and plenty of sauvage character. There is slightly better volume and mid-palate density to the velvety and round flavors that also terminate in a mildly warm finish that is sufficiently chewy and rustic to cut the finish somewhat short." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine Marquis d’Angerville Pommard “Combes Dessus” Premier Cru 2018
"A slightly riper nose offers up notes of poached plum, dark raspberry liqueur and whiffs of earth and underbrush. The supple, round and appealingly textured flavors possess first-rate delineation and a subtle salinity that adds a touch of lift to the sappy if ever-so-slightly rustic finale." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine Marquis d’Angerville Volnay Premier Cru 2018
"As usual, the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru is blend of Les Pitures and Mitans. More reserved than the Pommard that preceded it, the wine unwinds slowly in the glass, revealing enticing aromas of rose petals, red berries, blood orange, raw cocoa and deep soil tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, charming and elegant, with lively acids and fine, chalky tannins." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate
Domaine Marquis D’Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles 2018
"Domaine Marquis D’Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles 2018, Once again there an elevated level of ripeness to the still fresh nose of cassis, black cherry and poached plum. The slightly more elegant and more concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess fine richness; indeed the texture is quite seductive, all wrapped in a complex, long and balanced finale where a hint of bitter pit fruit arises."
Domaine Marquis d’Angerville Volnay “Frémiets” Premier Cru 2018
"An overtly ripe yet still reasonably fresh nose combines notes of liqueur-like black berry fruit with those of exuberantly spicy plum and floral scents. The super-sleek, intense and elegant medium weight flavors exude evident minerality on the lacy and refreshing finale that is both sappy and impressively long. This is ripe yet it remains very Volnay in character." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine Marquis d’Angerville Volnay “Caillerets” Premier Cru 2018
"This is the first wine to exhibit any appreciable wood influence and even here it is a background element on the markedly ripe aromas of cassis plum liqueur and exotic tea-scented nose. The strikingly refined middle-weight flavors brim with minerality on the rich but lilting finale where the only reproach is a subtle touch of warmth. Lovely stuff though make no mistake, it should amply reward extended cellaring." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
