The Origins of Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon wasn't planned. Sometime in 17th-century Bordeaux, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc crossed paths, and wine was never quite the same. It found its home on the Left Bank, in the gravelly soils of Médoc and Graves. Today it thrives across the globe, in Bolgheri's Tuscan vineyards and on Stellenbosch's mountain slopes.
A late-ripening grape harvested in autumn, it develops deep concentration and age-worthy structure. Expect bold tannins, dark fruit, and notes of cedar. Pair it with red meats, hearty stews, or aged hard cheeses.

FAQ
1. Is Cabernet Sauvignon dry or sweet?
Cabernet Sauvignon is a dry red wine with very little residual sugar. While you may notice rich fruit flavours like blackcurrant and cherry, this is not the same as sweetness. The wine itself is dry on the palate, with firm tannins and a bold, full-bodied finish.
2. What kind of wine is Cabernet Sauvignon?
Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied red wine known for its deep colour, firm tannins, and flavours of dark fruit, cedar, and tobacco. Originally from Bordeaux, France, it's now grown across the world, including South Africa, where it thrives in regions like Stellenbosch. It pairs beautifully with rich, red meats and hearty dishes.
3. How should I drink Cabernet Sauvignon?
Serve Cabernet Sauvignon slightly below room temperature, ideally around 16–18°C (60–65°F). This brings out its complex aromas and softens the tannins. Pour into a large-bowled glass to let it breathe, or decant younger bottles for 30 minutes to an hour before enjoying.
