Situated in Bolgheri on Tuscany's picturesque coastline, Ca'Marcanda is the Gaja family's expression of one of Italy's most dynamic and celebrated wine regions. Officially opened in 2002 with the release of the inaugural 2000 Camarcanda vintage, the estate reflects a deep commitment to understanding and expressing the unique character of this extraordinary terroir.
Bolgheri's proximity to the Mediterranean gives rise to wines that combine richness and freshness in equal measure. Influenced by Bordeaux varieties yet unmistakably Tuscan in personality, the wines are known for their soft tannins, generous fruit, vibrant energy and remarkable drinkability. With time in bottle, they reveal distinctive notes of wild herbs, spice and Mediterranean scrub, capturing the essence of the Tuscan coast.
Designed by architect Giovanni Bo, the Ca'Marcanda winery embodies the values of simplicity, discretion and sustainability that define the estate. One of the first underground wineries built in Italy, two-thirds of the 10,000-square-metre cellar lies beneath the earth, allowing it to integrate seamlessly into the surrounding landscape while naturally reducing energy consumption.
Both in the vineyard and cellar, Ca'Marcanda follows a philosophy rooted in observation, humility and respect for nature. Rather than adhering to prescribed classifications, the team favours thoughtful intervention, encouraging the resilience of the vines and allowing each vintage to express itself authentically. The resulting wines are elegant and approachable, balancing structure with freshness and reflecting the welcoming, vibrant spirit of Bolgheri.
