Comm. G.B. Burlotto
Commendatore Giovanni Battista (G.B.) Burlotto founded his eponymous winery in 1850 in Verduno, a historic village in the Barolo region of Piedmont, Italy. The winery, originally housed in an 18th-century building, quickly gained recognition for producing some of the finest wines in the Langhe region.
G.B. Burlotto was a visionary who believed in the potential of Barolo wines. His dedication to quality and innovation led to numerous awards and recognition, including becoming the official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy. The winery's success was built on hard work, precision, and a deep respect for the land.
After G.B. Burlotto's passing, the winery was passed down through generations, with his descendants continuing to uphold the family's winemaking traditions. Today, Comm. G.B. Burlotto remains a symbol of excellence, producing wines that reflect the soul and natural attributes of their terroir.
Burlotto's winemaking practices are deeply rooted in tradition and constant innovation. Grapes are gently crushed by foot, a traditional method that ensures minimal damage to the fruit. The wines undergo an extended maceration period of up to 60 days on the skins, allowing for deep extraction of flavours and tannins. Wines are aged in large French oak barrels, which impart subtle oak flavours and allow for slow, controlled maturation. Depending on the vintage, the wines are aged for 20 to 36 months, ensuring they develop fully before bottling. Only the best grapes from their vineyards, including renowned crus like Monvigliero and Cannubi, are used.
