Domaine d’Eugénie

Following the untimely death of Philippe Engel of the legendary Domaine Engel in 2005, his family made the decision to sell the domaine and its holdings.

Purchased by François Pinault’s Artémis group of companies, Domaine Engel has been resurrected under the moniker of Domaine d’Eugénie.

The 2005 harvest had already been sold off in bulk, but the new team, including young vigneron Michel Mallard from Ladoix, vinified the 2006, 2007 and 2008 vintages. From 2009, the entire operation now occupies the newly refurbished Clos Frantin buildings in Vosne-Romanée.

Under a new regime, yields are significantly lower than in the days of Domaine Engel, and significant investment has been made in the vineyards, including a substantial programme of replacing missing individual vines. These will be picked separately and declassified into the village Vosne-Romanée while still in their youth.
