Domaine Georges Roumier

Finally, after more than 10 years of persistence, Great Domaines proudly adds this Burgundian superstar to its portfolio. Situated in Chambolle-Musigny, Roumier is next-door neighbours with another one of our gems and first producers to our portfolio, Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier.

The Domaine was founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier when he took over the Quantin family vineyards as part of his wife, Genevieve Quantin’s dowry. He enlarged the domaine by taking on a small part of Musigny en métayage and buying additional land in the Chambolle commune. Today, Domaine Roumier is run by his grandson Christophe.

Robert Parker said of Christophe that he has brought “his family’s already famous domaine to a singular level of excellence through an exemplary application of intelligence, sensitivity, and hard work”. Neil Martin, true to his style, wrote: “Whenever I meet Christophe Roumier I get the impression of a Burgundy superstar in the eye of a storm. Around him, the world over, Roumier is the Holy Grail for collectors bidding astronomical sums for bottles that bear his family name”.

Today the Domaine covers 11.8 hectares in Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Corton-Charlemagne. Roumier produces some of the world’s finest Pinot Noir; in particular the four Grands Crus of Ruchottes-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin in Gevrey-Chambertin; and then Musigny and Bonnes-Mares. They cultivate rich and fascinating terroir; producing complex wines that are light, intense and elegant with a long finish. Each wine is a pure expression of its unique terroir and appellation.
