Domaine Mader

Domaine Mader is a name to watch. The wines are highly regarded in France and have quickly developed a reputation for being some of the finest value wines in Alsace.

Founded by Jean-Luc and Anne Mader in 1981 in the village of Hunawihr just south of Ribeauvillé, the Mader estate is small – about 7 hectares with 0.7 planted on the Grand Cru ‘’Rosacker’’. Now under the management of Jérôme Mader, they converted to organic winemaking and all work in the vineyards is managed according to biodynamic principles. Despite the general reputation for wines from Alsace, those of Mader are all dry. Each varietal is produced to highlight the essence of the grape and the soil in which the vines grow.

The young and energetic Jérôme Mader took over the family Domaine several years ago helping it gain significant recognition.

All grapes are hand harvested, whole-bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeast in stainless and aged on fine lees for 6-8 months before bottling with light filtration. The Mader Rieslings make for some of the few in Alsace produced in a classic fine dry style, built to age.

These wines are authentic, incredibly well-made and translate that elusive sense of place through their flavour, complexity and distinctive finish.
