Egon Müller

The Müller family exploits their single vineyard ‘Scharzhofberg’ holding to the fullest and is ranked among the world’s top wine producers. These wines are taut and racy, with dazzling fruit; they are severely mineral and have an endless finish.

The estate has been in the hands of the Müller family since 1797. Egon Müller IV makes breathtaking Rieslings from the estate’s 8.3 ha of the famous Scharzhofberg vineyard in Germany’s Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region. This is among the finest Riesling sites in Germany and is considered Grand Cru. As such, it can be labeled with its vineyard name, or “Einzellage”, rather than its village name. The Müller holdings here include a parcel of un-grafted vines that were planted in the 19th century.

These wines deliver at the highest level of quality and are without question among the world’s great wines, and probably Germany’s most sought after. They are fine, balanced, authentic, and enjoyable young as well as after many years of cellaring.

Egon is known for far less spraying of his vineyards than other producers and is fortunate for having a high average vine age. Grapes are hand-harvested and pressed without any skin contact and fermented and aged in 1,000 litre oak casks in Egon’s beautifully natural, deep, cool cellars.
