The estate’s holdings comprise of 13.5ha of some of the Mittelmosel’s greatest sites including Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich and Graacher Domprobst. Katherina makes wines with fantastic minerality and purity of fruit, perfectly showcasing the Mosel’s steeply-sloped, slate rich terroir with a philosophy that would not be out of place in the greatest of Burgundy domaines.
The estate’s vines include 70% of which are ungrafted due to the phylloxera louse’s inability to survive in these slate soils. Prüm’s accession to the very top of the quality hierarchy in the Mosel can be attributed to harnessing everything possible from great sites, old vines, low yields, late harvesting and selection of the very best berries. The winemaking here is as natural as possible with as little intervention as possible. These wines typically need many years to start showing at their best and can develop and age for decades. This is one of the Mosel’s very best addresses.
