Pieve Santa Restituta (Gaja)

Pieve Santa Restituta represents the Gaja family's interpretation of Montalcino, home to the iconic Brunello di Montalcino. Drawn by the parallels between Nebbiolo and Sangiovese – two indigenous varieties responsible for some of Italy's most celebrated wines – the family expanded into Tuscany in 1994 with the acquisition of this historic estate.

Situated in a privileged position south of the village of Montalcino, the estate comprises vineyards exposed to the south and southwest, where altitude, constant breezes and abundant sunlight create ideal conditions for Sangiovese to thrive. The dry, well-ventilated microclimate promotes healthy vineyards and allows the grapes to achieve full ripeness while retaining balance and finesse.

Since acquiring the property, the Gaja family has carefully restored both the vineyards and the winery, aligning every aspect of the estate with their philosophy of precision, respect for terroir and long-term sustainability. Much of the renovated cellar now lies discreetly underground, blending seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

The estate takes its name from the ancient Pieve di Santa Restituta, a parish church located at its heart, whose origins date back to the early centuries of Christianity. The labels pay tribute to this historic connection, featuring a central cross that honours the church's enduring presence and reflects the timeless elegance associated with the Gaja family.

Looking to the future, Pieve Santa Restituta has continued to evolve in response to changing climatic conditions. Additional high-altitude vineyard sites have been acquired to preserve freshness and balance in the wines, reinforcing the estate's commitment to producing Brunello of purity, structure and longevity.
