"Once a cheesy, yeasty veil is largely shed through air-exposure, the Loosen 2010 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Kabinett reveals site-typical sassafras, lemon and orange, which reemerge in tart, pungent form on a delicate palate. Faintly smoky, stony finishing notes are also very Treppchen-typical, here combined with pronounced zest and piquancy but without the juiciness of saliva-inducing savor I look for in the best examples of this genre. Given the track record for residually sweet Kabinett at this address, it’s hard for me to imagine that this won’t perform well for at least a dozen years, but I shall hope to again check in on it before too long anyway, as I would also like to think that it is more successful than its September showing suggested." - David Schildknecht
